Awareness is Healing® Method (AIH)
Modern medicine tends to address the symptoms while ignoring the underlying issues that result in chronic and acute disease. We believe that healing is a holistic process powered by greater self-awareness. Understanding how your body functions and responds to stress, brought on by past events and/or your current lifestyle, is often the missing link to resolving years of pain and suffering.
Centered Spirit's Awareness is Healing® Method (AIH) is a holistic modality rooted in Traditional Maya Medicine. It evolved from co-founder Alex Jackson’s decades of traveling, studying and apprenticing with internationally renowned traditional medicine practitioners and teachers of Maya and Mexican Traditions in Central America, Mexico and New Mexico.
The Awareness is Healing® Method encompasses the belief that trauma, repeated stress and unresolved emotions cause undue pressure in the body leading to chronic physical health conditions, including:
Irritable Bowel Syndrome
Irregular menstrual cycles
Tilted or prolapsed uterus
Abnormal uterine bleeding
Pregnancy-related back pain
Post-surgical adhesions & scar tissue
Chronic pelvic pain
Whole Body Healing
We listen carefully to your story and determine a path forward that’s grounded in the latest knowledge of anatomy and physiology and customized to fit your individual needs. As you experience greater awareness about how stress, emotion and trauma affect your body, you’ll gain insights and learn strategies that support transformative, long-lasting relief.
The Awareness is Healing® Method embraces four defining principles to achieve holistic results:
Stress, trauma, or anxiety has a constrictive effect on the diaphragms. The diaphragms are meant to be flexible and move with our breathing — outward, inward, superior and inferior. Restoring diaphragm synchronization relaxes the nervous system and is the key to experiencing lasting relief from many health conditions.
To get relief and synchronization, we use AIH and Maya Abdominal Massage to directly work the attachments and fascial planes of the diaphragms.
We address restrictions of the two major transverse diaphragms in the body, the respiratory/thoracic and the pelvic diaphragm. (The body has four transverse diaphragms, including the cervical and cranial. All should be moving in synchronicity for optimal health and resiliency.)
Nervous System Regulation
The nervous system (NS) adapts to our environment and our thoughts and controls whether our breathing is shallow, fast, or relaxed.
A volatile or stressful environment has an adverse effect on our nervous system and proper movement of the diaphragms.
This can lead to many chronic health conditions, both physically and mentally.
AIH recognizes this and the importance of getting the NS back to a non-reactive state of being to achieve lasting health.
Equalizing Pressure in the Body
Our body is constantly expanding and contracting with each breath. Pumping oxygenated blood to all parts of the body then returning it back to the heart through the venous system.
All machines, even the human body, runs better if it maintains an equal pressure within. Unfortunately, due to stress our breathing shortens and when this happens repeatedly it will contract the diaphragms.
These diaphragms act like gates across the body and tighten with tension or stress. Over time they trap pressure which can lead to chronic physical pain.
AIH and Maya Abdominal Massage finds any trapped area that is pressurized and releases it, returning the whole body back to equalized pressure and homeostasis.
It is true that when we first feel stress in our body, we process it later in the mind. We also store emotions and trauma in our tissues, especially the abdomen.
For this reason, we cannot avoid or overlook the importance of bringing awareness to any emotional restrictions that may be the original cause of a physical contraction in the body.
Left unaddressed, unresolved emotions that reside in the body often manifest as physical pain and illness.
AIH and Maya Abdominal Massage help to create a simultaneous awareness of any physical and emotional connections to get a lasting resolution.
The Awareness is Healing® Method
The Awareness is Healing® Method integrates an intuitive, comprehensive approach to care and includes techniques like:
Maya Abdominal Massage ~ a critical component of the Awareness is Healing® Method, the abdomen is the doorway leading to balance in the body and spirit for a more “centered spirit.”
Cupping Therapy ~ gentle pulling of the muscles to release fascia, nerves and adhesions.
Acupressure ~ a traditional Maya & Chinese medicine technique that follows similar principles as acupuncture, but without needles.
