Our Story

CORE INTENTION

Centered Spirit respects and believes in the body’s innate wisdom and natural ability to achieve health and balance. With this intention, your body is guided back into a naturally harmonious state. When the spirit and the body are truly “centered,” everything else in life becomes easier.

OUR VISION

Centered Spirit is a Cultural and Holistic Center located in Kansas City, Missouri.

As a haven for healing, the Center offers a true Cultural and Holistic experience. Alex and Emilie Jackson, founders of the Center, share a passion for the healing traditions of Central America, Mexico and Europe. Their love for these and other cultures is embedded in every part of the Center, allowing everyone who enters to feel transported, embraced and at peace.

Alex and Emilie envisioned a healing center where everybody is welcome and accepted for who they are — no matter the color, the religion, the gender or the country they come from. The Center not only provides a safe environment for healing and relaxation but is also a place to learn about cultures, traditions and tea rituals from around the world.

The French Tea Room—a first in the area—features several imported teas from France and is the perfect place to relax and connect with the community.

It took over 10 years to turn this vision into reality and about two years to find the location that would reflect the founder’s dreams.

“Never give up on a dream just because of the time it will take to accomplish it. The time will pass anyway.”

—  Earl Nightingale

Awareness Is Healing

Alex opened his private holistic practice in 2003 — for over a decade; Alex’s primary focus in his practice has been on traditional ways to heal the body and spirit through the abdomen. Proper balance in the core can resolve many physical ailments and emotional traumas. Alex sees the abdomen as the doorway to achieve this balance or “Centered Spirit.” Traditional Maya Medicine has been at the core of his work, often providing the missing link in healthcare for his patients.

After nearly two decades in practice as a Holistic Health Practitioner, Alex co-founded Centered Spirit –Cultural and Holistic Center with his wife Emilie in January 2017. With the creation of the Center, they are able to offer more services as well as host classes in Traditional Medicine.

Since 2003, Alex has made annual journeys to Belize, Guatemala and Mexico to study various healing techniques and herbal medicine with indigenous and well renowned Traditional Healers. Alex was born and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he attended CNM. He is proud to come from a state with such deep roots in Traditional Medicine. Each year he returns to speak at the University of New Mexico for their classes on Traditional Medicine without Borders.

Tea is as fascinating and complex as wine...

â„¢

After working in International Business and Marketing for over 15 years, Emilie decided to pursue her dream of starting her own business.

Always interested in natural healing and herbalism, Emilie first experienced Traditional Medicine when she moved to Mexico City in 2005. In 2010 she met her husband Alex in Guatemala and a year later moved to the United States.

Emilie has a passion for cultures, traditions and rituals from around the world — especially tea rituals. She describes tea as being “as fascinating and complex as wine.” Visitors to the French Tea Room quickly find out that her enthusiasm for the Art of Tea is contagious. In a recent magazine article, Emilie talks about how her interest in tea began and describes the health benefits of tea rituals.

Originally from France, Emilie speaks English, Spanish and French fluently. She has lived in five different countries, including Portugal, England, and Mexico, where ancient healing traditions are still alive. In addition to experience in healthcare and complementary and alternative medicine, she is also a Shamanic Ordained Minister.
